Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is unclear and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Additional Developments

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.

The statement noted debris fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
