Los Angeles Battles Unprecedented Heat Just Days Following Severe Winter Storm.
Following a week of significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across areas in the city, Los Angeles is now seeing unseasonably high temperatures for late February.
All-Time High Readings
During the day Friday, the thermometer climbed to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown Los Angeles, according to weather officials. This breaks the prior high for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was set just last year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were highlighted on official charts for the region.
Public Health Advisories
Authorities cautioned that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for those at risk. Their guidance suggested:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a hot car.
A Sharp Shift
This sharp rise in temperature arrives just after a powerful storm system that struck the region last week. That storm unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, causing evacuation orders for millions residents.
Sadly, the storm also caused a deadly avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Temperatures Easing
Forecasters predict cooler conditions is coming. Temperatures were forecast to decrease to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city by late Friday.
Other locales that experienced 90°F included Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Additionally, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were projected to experience the high eighties.
In the coming days, downtown Los Angeles can see readings in the 80s, with cooler weather likely for the week ahead.
