UK Set to Employ Frozen Russia's Assets to Finance Ukraine's War Effort
The UK is set to progress with using the entire amount of seized Russia's funds to support the Ukrainian war effort, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a collective announcement, the leaders of the Britain, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this coordinated action would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and persuade Moscow to participate in talks.
They further noted that the initiative would be carried out in tight collaboration with the US.
British penalties have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russian assets since Russia began its full-scale invasion against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. Yet, until now, resources provided to the Ukrainian government using Russia's funds had solely been sourced from gains and dividends generated on them.
Sir Keir assured Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, the French Republic, and Germany were aligned in their aim to advance efforts toward using the total worth of the immobilized Russia's state holdings to conclude the conflict.
He added that additional measures over the next period would increase the strain on Russia.
This declaration follows EU leaders met in the Danish capital previously to debate using frozen Russian holdings for a 140-billion-euro credit to the Ukrainian nation.
In the previous month, President Donald Trump encouraged G7 allies to take or employ frozen Russian funds, as reported by reports.
The value of immobilized Russia's funds in the Europe is assessed to be almost €211bn.

The Russian government executed widespread bombardments across the Ukrainian territory on that day, leading to blackouts in many areas of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and several other zones.
Two people were killed and at least 20 people were hurt in the attack, authorities in Ukraine reported.
In a post on an online platform after the incident, Zelensky wrote that the cynical and calculated attack targeted civilian and energy infrastructure.
"What is required is not mere statements but concrete steps - from the US, the European Union, and the seven nations - in supplying defense mechanisms and implementing restrictions," he emphasized.
"All penalty impositions undermines the Russian war effort," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.
Additionally that day, Zelensky informed the press he would press Sir Keir to join the Purl scheme, under which alliance members buy military equipment from the United States to donate to Ukraine.
While commending the United Kingdom's strong support for Ukraine, he said it should send a clear signal that it would participate in the system, as well as enforce more measures on Moscow.
